The Pyrenees National Park

The Pyrenees National Park is a unique territory with an exceptional natural heritage. Created in 1967, it spreads over 46 000 hectares from the Aspe Valley to the Aure Valley, in the departments of the Pyrénées-Atlantiques and the Hautes-Pyrénées. The Pyrenees National Park alone represents more than 100 km of high mountains separating France and Spain, wild fauna, preserved nature, superb landscapes in the image of the “Cirque de Gavarnie” listed as a World Heritage site by UNESCO, or the Pic du Midi d’Ossau. Here, where the only occasional inhabitants are shepherds ; the izards, bears and large birds of prey have found their last free space in these mountains.

Deciding to discover the Pyrenees National Park is to set out into 350 km of signposted trails. In Etsaut, Laruns, Arrens-Marsous, Cauterets, Luz-St-Sauveur, Gavarnie and St-Lary, 7 houses of the national park (exhibitions, information…) open their doors to you and initiate you to the traditions of the Pyrenees.
