Bellevue Promenade and Ramparts

Ramparts surrounding the Sainte-Croix hill were erected by the Romans at the beginning of the Vth century.
During the Middle Ages, fortifications were modificated several times with the installation of the Viscounts castle through which we entered in the city where took place markets and fairs.
The Bellevue Promenade that borders the ramparts was created in the XIXth century and offers spectacular viewpoints of the Sainte-Marie quarter, the Oloronese Piedmont and the Pyrenees chain.
A contemporary work of art, the "Chi", realised by the Irish M. Warren, reminds us the passage of pilgrims on the Way of Saint-James.
