The Sainte-Croix Quarter
Around 1080, the Viscount of Béarn, Centulle V le Jeune, came to rebuild a town on the ruins of the former defensive site that he named Oloron. He bestowed many privileges, especially commercial and military. The town therefore became more important and welcomed foreign sovereigns and more and more pilgrims going to Saint Jacques de Compostelle.
Many traces are proof of this rich past during medieval times, such as the half-timbered houses that house part of the market, the "Maison du Sénéchal", the Town-Hall and the prison where King Louis XI made a stay.
